Cliffords Inn gets its name from one of the ancient Inns of Chancery which stood on the site for about 600 years until the early 1930s. It was built on land originally rented in 1304 from the powerful Clifford family. The arms of Cliffords Inn are based on the arms of the Cliffords, but with a red border all around as shown above.

The present building was constructed in 1934, and consists of 8 floors. The lower 2 floors are commercial premises and also contain 8 flats. Floors 3 to 8 contain 100 flats which are owned by leaseholders having long leases. These floors are run by Cliffords Inn Management Company Ltd (CIMC) who employ managing agents to administer the upper part of the building on their behalf. This website was constructed in 2016 by CIMC.

	This aerial view of Cliffords Inn was taken in 2012, at a time when the freeholder was building extensions to the three ground floors which form the commercial part of the building. The church of St. Dunstan in the West is in the foreground, with Fleet Street in front of it. Cliffords Inn is the brick building behind it in the shape of a letter E. Behind that is a building site which has now had a block of flats built on it and the old Rolls Building which now houses the Maugham Library of Kings College London.
